RORAH NAMED F&B SCHOLAR

WHEATLAND (IOWA) Whitney Rorah, a senior at Northeast High School from Delmar, has been named this year’s local F&B Communications $500 scholarship winner.

Rorah plans to attend Wartburg College in Waverly to study biology.

In her application essay, Rorah wrote that her most significant accomplishment was organizing an effort to raise awareness and $1,700 for breast cancer research through a special "pink" basketball game.

Rorah is an excellent student who fulfills the ideals of the F&B Communications scholarship program with her academic achievements and community involvement, said Ken Laursen, general manager.

High school seniors who live in households in the F&B local telephone service area were eligible for the award. Students submitted an application form and three finalists were selected for in-person interviews.

A primary goal of the scholarship is to ensure that our community’s children have the privilege of attending college and encourage young people to return to rural areas after graduation, Aaron Horman, marketing manager, said.

The local F&B scholarship was started in 2003 because the Board of Directors and employees of F&B are committed to the education of local youth and believe learning is a lifelong process.

Rorah’s parents Greg and Mary Lou subscribe to F&B services in the Delmar exchange.
